Highway Safety Programs

The California Highway Information Network (CHIN) offers a toll-free phone number (1-800-427-ROAD) that, when used with a touch-tone phone, will provide the caller with road conditions on any State Highway within California.   The Central Valley can get foggy and when it does, Amtrak’s San Joaquin and local transit services are the best way to get around. If you must drive, Operation Fog, a joint-effort of the California Highway Patrol (CHP) and Caltrans, is designed to reduce the number of multi-vehicle accidents in known dense fog areas. This program encompasses the Pace operation of the CHP, along with the utilization of Caltrans’ changeable message signs, highway advisory radios and weather stations.   The Freeway Service Patrol provides assistance to disabled vehicles on Highway 41 within the Fresno-Clovis Metropolitan Area.   http://www.dot.ca.gov/
